The enquestfor the Clarke of the Markett [4 March, 6 Eliz.]- Fyrst they ffynde that the Cittie hathe neyther common beame, ballaunces nor waightes.

Also they do ffynd that John Fayerclyff, miller, doth kepe pullery as hennys, duckes, pygges, and swyne contrary to ther charge.

Item they ffynde that the comon bakers viz. John Pye [and eleven others] do bake ther brede under the syse [assize] and contray to ther charge.

Also they do ffynde that the comon alebrewers viz. Edwarde Pye, Wedow Geywoode, John Lawrewoode, Ralphe Stephanson and [blank] Glaven do brewe ther ale not holsome for mansbody and that theyhaue no taster according to ther charge.

Also they do ffynde that the comon berebrewars viz. Thomas Narford [and eight others] brew beare not holsome for mannes body. Item they do ffynde that coummon inholders viz. Mr. Norgate, Mr. Hed, Aldermen, John Clarke [and thirty-five others]

do sell ther bottelles of hay not contaynyng wayghte. Also they do ffynde that wynesellers viz. Mr. Norgate Mr. Hed, Aldermen [and seven others] do sell ther wyne contray to the Statute.1 Also they do ffynde that bochars viz. Mr. Grene, Alderman, [and eighteen others] do kyll ther bulls unbayted and kene [cows] with calfe.

Also they do ffynde that the fysshemongars viz. Mr. Warden Alderman [and eight others] do sell their ffysshe not well wateryd.

Also they do ffynde that the typlers viz. Alys Broune, Margery Dinglow, Thomas Moyes [and twenty others] do sell ther ale and beare with pottes unsyzed and sealyd and also they donot sell a quart of the best ale or beare for a halfpenny (ob'). Also they do ffynde that the whight lether tawers viz. Vincent Tesmonde [and six others] do tewe calveskynnes.
